Hello! We’re Alex and Sam. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and learn more about us.

We met online in 2012 and started dating shortly thereafter. Alex recalls Sam including hidden messages in their getting-to-know-you chats that were basically asking him out. We dated over the next few years while Alex was finishing up his degree, and he moved in with Sam after graduating.

When Sam and I first started talking, I knew he was special. From decrypting the secret messages in our online chats to supporting every endeavor I’ve ever dreamed of, he always keeps me, and all those around him, smiling, laughing, and feeling loved.

Sam is a tenured high school English teacher and his passion for it is astounding. You can tell his students really love, respect, and appreciate him by the sheer number of letters and gifts he brings home each year. In addition to teaching, Sam directs and...

I would be remiss if I did not begin by saying Alex is a classically trained vocalist who would be an opera singer right now if it weren’t for his realization that singing professionally would be too much of a commitment that would get in the way of raising a family. Early in our relationship he decided to give up on a career in music so that he would not have to be away from me and any future child(ren) for the long months that this would have entailed. Now when he sings at benefit concerts or with his choir, I am not only blown away, but also so...

To this day, we still have moments where we pause, look at each other, and say, “Can you believe that this is our home?” We’ve lived in a few places over the course of our relationship, and we decided that when we finally bought our house, it would be our forever home, which we would adapt to fit our needs.

Our home is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house on two lots, located on a relatively quiet set of dead-end streets. When we moved in, we knew we wanted to make one of our dreams a reality and...

Our immediate family, though small, is incredibly close. For our core group, on Alex’s side, we have his sister and brother-in-law, along with our niece and nephew, and on Sam’s side, we have his parents and sister and brother-in-law. We also have a large assortment of cousins, aunts, and uncles who live nearby and see a few times a year for larger gatherings.

We see our best friends, whom we consider extended family, regularly. If we go too long without a game night, everyone gets a bit antsy....

There is quite a list of things you can find us doing in our spare time. We both enjoy video games (see aforementioned game room), playing board games at the dining room table, reading (although Sam’s library is much more extensive than Alex’s), and going on hikes with our dog, River. We love scary movies and have started a yearly tradition of our own curated 31 Days of Halloween, where we pick a different franchise every year and fill the remaining days with our favorites.
